A Prison Officers Story

Hi everyone,
I just stumbled upon this page last week whilst I was researching something for work and thought that I'd write you a little letter that may please some of the visitors to this site. (And might just make some of you real jealous too)!

Five years ago I left my job as an office worker in Fresno, California after deciding that I needed a career change. I'd been stuck in the same job since I left high school and knew that if I didn't make the change I never would. The time just seemed right to start a new challenge I guess.

At first I didn't have much idea of what I wanted to do. I wasn't exactly well qualified in many types of work and had been in the same job for over 8 years, but, I knew that I didn't want to sit in an office in the same seat day in day out anymore and quite liked the idea of getting out and about and playing a more active role in the community.
Then one of my friends who works within law enforcement suggested that as I was a fit and able person who wanted a more rewarding career perhaps I should join the LAPD.
I wasn't really too enthused by this idea as the job seemed very dangerous but the idea of working within Law enforcement sounded good to me and I decided to give it some serious thought.

Then about a month later I happened upon an advert appealing desperately for officers to work in local prisons. The idea of this sort of appealed to me. Upon reading up about the subject it didn't seem as sinister as it sounded. Through my Policeman friend I got in contact with some existing Prison Officers who vouched for the profession and told me that as a career it certainly had it merits and that it was an interesting profession to be involved in.

Just let me tell you now it is the best job in the world if you like seeing women in chains and shackles!

I never used to be turned on by this type of thing (I was more of a stocking and suspenders kinda guy)! But once I started to experience it first-hand, my job -which I enjoy anyway- became the best job you could imagine.

The training course that I went on was my first experience of chains. The seven week long course was a little boring at first but soon got very interesting especially when we learnt how to properly apply all types of restraints for all different types of situations.
Although the mannequins we used for the training were not a patch on the real thing!
We also visited a notorious Jail where we would often see inmates in chains as they embarked or disembarked the prison busses.

Now, nearly Five and a half years on from my mundane office job within the Toiletry industry I deal with some of the baddest women California has to offer. Every-day I shackle and escort women to courtrooms, hospitals all over the Los Angeles and Californian county district. And I also accompany inmates who are transferred from one Prison to another. I've even travelled on the JPATS airline transport system or "Con Air" as its more commonly known. That was a real experience!

I've been in charge of some of the sexiest women ever to don a prison jumpsuit and it's a job I love. I find that the most arousing part of escorting a female in restraints is when you lead them into public places. Of course, many of the women I deal with are hardened criminals that couldn't care less if they wore signs saying "I'm a stupid criminal" around their necks as well as chains but most of them are normal people who embarrass as easily as the next man (or should that be the next woman)
When you take a slim, attractive, sexy inmate into a crowded courtroom while she is wearing a full set of restraints you can practically feel their shame.
Personally, and I really mean this, I feel a little sorry for some of them. Many of the inmates are in Jail for minor offences and really don't deserve to be humiliated like that in public, but I must admit that -and I feel a little guilty by saying this- It really turns me on.

Of course being based where I am: here on the west coast of America, I see my fair share of Baywatch-alike beach blondes. If you take a trip to the beach on any typical warm Californian day you'll see them soaking up the sun in their swimming costumes. and within the prison system is no exception. Just yesterday I watched as a blonde 20 something hottie more accustomed to wearing a bikini shuffled toward me in her legirons and orange jumpsuit as she was transferred to us at Maximum security from the courtroom where she had just received a 4-year prison term.

Every once in while a prisoner will moan or question why the restraints are used. I remember one time as I was shackling a rather sexy young inmate called Gillian for a court appearance she sighed shyly
"Oh man come on, do I really have to wear these things"
I just had to say "they're for your safety as well as ours"
Which of course is the answer we are told to give.
Anyway, she had to wear them just like every other woman in her position.

Of course it wasn't always like this. When I first started my job I was working mainly in side the Prison environment and got to know many of the inmates very well. However even when you have got to know someone a little it doesn't make the shackling process any less arousing. Some of the prisoners even have a laugh when the chains are locked about their person. One inmate called Sally (a cute 30 something lifer) will sometimes remark
"Oh here comes my Jewellery" or "Now don't you lock me up too tight now boys" as her cuffs and irons ratchet shut.

Of course only the long term prisoners will react like that as they are chained so often it becomes just another part of their routine but in a great deal of cases the opposite will occur. Many, well in-fact all of the convicts I deal with are no strangers to a pair of Handcuffs -after all they've all obviously been arrested- but it's the women who have only just been found guilty that are unsurprising the most shocked when the chains go on.
It really must be awful to be fully shackled for the first time. The procedure goes roughly like this:
In court as soon as the judges hammer comes down and a guilty verdict is recorded I am technically in charge of that prisoner.
I'll approach the prisoner, place a pair of handcuffs on her and lead her down to the holding cells that are usually located within the basement of the Courthouse. She'll then be placed, alone in a small bare cell and stay there indefinitely, perhaps for a few minutes, maybe for a few hours until her designated transport is ready to depart

During this period shell be asked to change into her prison uniform and un-cuffed.
Some US counties make their inmates wear blue or red two-piece outfits
But here in Cali a good old fashioned Bright orange jumpsuit with CDC stencilled on the back is the norm. A pair of prison standard white sneakers will also be issued.

As soon as her transport is cleared for its journey she'll be told to step outside her cell and stand with her hands on her head for a minute or so whilst she is searched then shackled.

The convict will be searched quickly and asked to stand with her hands on her head whilst I stand behind her with the restraints at the ready.

Firstly a belly chain is applied. It is circled around the waist and locked with a small padlock to a snug fit just the prisoner's bottom. Then the handcuffs -two of which dangle from a two inch length of chain on either side of the belly chain -will be fastened. The cuffs are locked securely over the sleeves of the jumpsuit and double locked.

Next I will bend down and place the woman in a set of leg irons. The trousers of the Jumpsuit will be gently tugged down a little and smoothed slightly
The jaws of the irons will then be snapped over the trousers onto the ankle and gentle clicked shut. The Irons must be fastened tightly enough so that the jumpsuit trousers do not work form under the jaws, but not too tight -they must allow a little give so that the prisoner can still walk in her leg irons.

It's funny in a way as the woman will enter her holding cell and indeed the courtroom looking like a smart middle class person in her tailored pant suit or dress but leave looking like an archetypal American female convict: Dressed in Orange, Chained and aboard a highly secure prison bus or van.

Anyway that's enough from me for now. Naturally I have loads more tales about my experiences within the federal prison system but maybe I'll save that for another time!
Thanks for reading,

-John

Dear Max,

My partner enjoyed reading the article by John about a prison officer in California. I could empathise with the poor women being chained up and paraded in public, but it seems the Americans want to humiliate their prisoners publicly. I was surprised that a male officer was used to put the chains on a woman prisoner-I thought they would use a female guard or woman police officer to restrain women, especially young, attractive women. The male power thing could just get out of hand. Why do the Americans want to restrain felons, or even youngsters, who are not particularly dangerous as if they are dangerously violent criminals? It seems an ‘overkill’ approach and is not used in most countries in Europe.

My partner would like to read more, though! The sight of a woman in chains excites a lot of men, whether they admit to it or not.

Keep up the good work,

Carmen
